Our Story

Additional Information

Our mission is to make composting available, easy and affordable for everyone in our community

To date, Lone Tree Composting has collectively diverted hundreds of thousands of pounds of organic waste from Colorado's landfills! Over the next 12 months, we expect to double this amount. Thank you to our amazing customers for making this positive impact!

We, David and Jasmine, relocated to Lone Tree from Chicago in early 2019. We were so grateful to lay roots in such an amazing community but truthfully disappointed that there wasn’t an organic recycling service in our area. So we  decided to change that.

Lone Tree Composting was born in January 2020 to provide residents in Lone Tree an organic recycling option which is not currently offered by municipalities in the South Denver metro area. After initially starting in Lone Tree, we quickly expanded after receiving many inquiries from Highlands Ranch, Parker, Centennial, Littleton, Castle Pines, Englewood, Greenwood Village and other surrounding areas.

We are very passionate about giving residents an alternative in how they dispose of their organic waste in a sustainable way. This has a huge everyday impact and reduces harmful methane emissions.

Each week, we collect your organic waste (food waste / yard waste)  and divert them from the landfill to a commercial composting facility(s). We have different container size options depending on your household needs. We also offer one time orders: bulk yard waste removal and compost soil deliveries.

Composting is something we can all do to make a positive, tangible environmental impact in our community. Our soil health, our local agriculture and food, our water quality, climate, even our economy, all benefit.

We can accept a larger scope of compostables because we commercial compost. So even if you are composting at home, there is a larger scope of additional organic waste you can send to the commercial facility like soiled paper/cartons, meat and bones, dairy, and greasy cardboard.

On average, nearly half of what the average American throws in the garbage could be recycled back to the Earth as nutritious compost soil, but if not composted, it ends up in a landfill. In fact, organic material in the landfill contributes to the single largest direct human source of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.

During normal decomposition, like in a compost, organic matter is eaten and digested by microbes. Normally, these microbes produce carbon dioxide as a waste byproduct. But if no oxygen is available, like in the anaerobic environment of landfills, they produce methane instead. It's estimated that methane’s greenhouse emissions effect on the atmosphere is 21 times greater than carbon dioxide’s over a 100-year period.

Lone Tree Composting has received an outpour of support by our community. We are very grateful to all of you that have signed up for our service. I continuously witness people "rethinking their garbage" and start their composting journey - which has significant positive impact to our environment.

If you are passionate about sustainability and the environment and are interested in learning more about organic recycling, Lone Tree Composting is for you. Send us an email to get started.

We can all do our part to reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill, and instead, give it back to the Earth.
